Continuing our journey through Mozart’s Dances for Orchestra, here is a collection of 4 Contredanses (Country Dances). The score of the Neue Mozart Ausgabe says they were probably composed for the Carnival of 1777.
You may notice that several times I took advantage of repeats to slip in two slightly alternative transcriptions in the guise of one. I had already applied this technique before (and I was to do so again in the future) but this was the first time I did it in order to bring in the music lines from all instruments: if I couldn’t do it for all them at once, then I’d take turns with the repeats.
The youtube video features all four pieces in one video. On IMSLP you can stream and download individual mp3 files.
The two central pieces are actually called “Gavotte” in the score.
