I did this in a period of transcribing thrive, eager to gather as much hits as possible for the channel. I did get a few hits (“For a Few Hits More”!!), but also a lot of bashing – that I wasn’t hoping for.
The concept here was simply to apply the same technique I had already used plenty of times in other transcriptions, that is to replace “repeated notes”, difficult to pull off decently on the piano, with alternated octaves.
In hindsight the result is not one of the best. The piece is not unplayable, but definitely tiring. The resulting atmosphere is totally different from the original (but that wasn’t my aim in the first place) also the digital performance could use more speed and velocity tuning. Anything else?
In the end I decided to keep the YouTube video up because the bashing is, all things considered, hilarious. I even got some positive feedback too!
I didn’t remove it from the catalog although I consider it to be a “version zero”; I did start working on a totally different version, years later, but I don’t know if I’ll ever complete it.
